A study, first of its kind, examined excess mortality and its predictors among alcohol dependent individuals in the general population over a 14-year period. The findings concluded that annual death rates were higher for alcohol dependent females than for alcohol dependent males when compared to the general population.

Binge drinking influenced by brain protein

A recent study conducted by The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) demonstrated how binge drinking behaviors in animals can be controlled by eliminating a certain brain protein. In this analysis, mice were deprived of said protein, diminishing reward property signals that the brain receives during increased alcohol consumption.
